What to do when Otterbox rubber silicone is getting loose

Posted by Marcel Key on 24th Mar 2014

In some cases, yes, you may have the same problem. The rubber silicone part starts getting loose.

This is a common issue and becomes evident as some users do frequently taking out their mobile phone from the case.
This can happen as well due to your working environment and that includes the weather particularly when it is hot and humid.

To get the maximum protection, Otterbox rubber silicone must fit firmly into your phone. Therefore it is important to fix it if they are getting loose.

If you run out the warranty, there is a method that perhaps can help you to return the rubber silicone part close enough to the original condition. This does not seem always to work though and I never tried it myself.

Please watch this video from YouTube

These are the 4 steps they use:

  1. Firstly you need to boil some water and make sure it is boiling hot.
  2. Remove the rubber from the case and put in the boiling water for about 30sec - 1 min.
  3. Remove the rubber from the boiling hot water and put on ice cold water for about 10-20 sec.
  4. Dry the silicone case with paper towel or cloth and then I hope it will be good as new.

This method is usually used for fixing silicone mouthguard but I heard it is working well to fix the Otterbox silicone.

Try and let me know how it goes and feel free to share if you have another methods or if this method really works.
